Facebook rolls out ads to news feeds, naming them Featured Stories

nma reporting:
The ads that appear in a user’s news feed work in the same way as Facebook’s Sponsored Stories ad format, by showing a user’s social interactions with brands within the ad creative. Facebook said the posts, which will start appearing in people’s news feeds from today, will be flagged as “Featured” to better represent to users that they are seeing the paid-for post because they or someone they know has already interacted with that brand.

A Facebook spokeswoman said, “We’ll be labelling these stories as Featured instead of Sponsored. We are using the term Featured because we want to make it clear to people that they’re seeing content from a page or person they have chosen to connect with.

“Since people can see marketing messages from both pages they have and have not Liked elsewhere on Facebook, we want to make it clear that marketers can only pay for stories to be featured in your news feed if you have explicitly liked the page,” she added. “And because you are always connected to your friends, we are also labelling stories from your friends that have been paid to be featured in your news feed as Featured’ to keep things consistent.”
According to Facebook, the types of content seen in the Featured ads includes posts from a brand page that a user has Liked or information about friends’ interactions, such as when they have Liked a page or checked into a venue.
